So, I recently (and not so recently) got nominated for some awards by a lovely bunch of bloggers who have a knack of coming up with some pretty great questions for these things. That makes me mucho happy, so I’m going to cover them all in this post today.
Many thanks to Janna and superwifeandmummy who each nominated me for one of these. Janna is a lovely beauty and skincare enthusiast from the Philippines and she writes some wonderful product reviews – some of said products aren’t widely available here in cloudy London, which makes them all the more fun to read! Superwifeandmummy blogs about life’s little observations, and also writes some astoundingly good poetry and shorter fiction pieces. They also both happen to be mummas – mummying alone is hard enough, I don’t know how they do it all AND blog! Please check out their work.
- What is the best food you’ve ever had?
Oh goodness, straight in at the deep end. This is a tough one – I just love all kinds of food. I’m just going to go with my guilty pleasures and say KFC. Either that, or a really cheesy pizza. A good mojito does the trick too.
- What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home?
Probably when I went to Japan two summers ago. It was nothing short of an adventure!
- One thing on your bucket list
Publishing my own book. Designing my own makeup range would be pretty awesome too.
- Favourite TV show?
Dexter or Gossip Girl and more recently, Kitchen Nightmares. Gordon Ramsay is savage.
- If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Being able to drift around invisibly like a ghost. Oh, the amount of nosying around I’d do…
- Where would your dream holiday destination be?
Fiji’s looking pretty good to me…
- First product/make up product you ever bought?
A black kohl eyeliner.
- Favourite book? Why?
“Quiet” by Susan Cain. It really got under my skin (in a good way) and made me think long and hard about things. Definitely worth a read.
- What are you most looking forward to in the next 5 years?
Graduating, moving out, getting my life started.
- What are your hobbies?
Listening to music, playing the violin, befriending my neighbours’ cats, taking long walks, discovering quiet spots around London. Oh, and blogging.
- Why did you start your blog?
I honestly started this blog on a whim whilst waiting to hear back from internships I’d applied to this summer. I’ve always loved to write and makeup is one of my lesser-known passions, so why not create something out of both?
- If you were someone else who would you want to be?
Barack Obama. I’m not the most clued up person when it comes to politics but I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be the President of the United States.
- What is your definition of success?
Achieving goals you set yourself and consistently pushing yourself out of your comfort zone in the pursuit of self-improvement. Humility and a kind heart are pretty great markers of success in my books.
- Who is your favourite superhero and why?
Not an avid fan of superhero films but probably have to go with Deadpool! Can’t go wrong with a big heart and a kickass sense of humour.
- How are you different in real life from how you are on your blog?
I don’t think there is that much of a difference… though I have rambling monologues in real life much less often – those tend to stay in my head.
- Music – what is your favourite a) guilty pleasure song b) getting ‘pumped up’ song c) sad listening song
Ooh, guilty pleasure song at the moment probably has to be anything by Josh Groban. Pumped up song – Katy Perry’s “Firework” – I’ve done a lot of exercise to that song. Sad song – Sarah McLachlan’s “When She Loved Me”. We all cried at that scene in Toy Story 2. Oh, just me? Okay never mind.
- What was the most challenging post (in terms of editing pictures, writing/explaining) you’ve done so far?
Hmm, probably my “The Confused Ambivert” and “The Mirror vs. Me” posts. They were both posts where I did a fair amount of reading before being able to write them, but those two subjects have always been things that I’ve mulled over but never really talked about. Glad I wrote them.
- What is your favourite movie?
At the moment, I’m going with “Bad Moms”. I just laughed so hard.
- How do you find ideas for posts?
I try to keep it fairly varied, usually I’ll write a post based on something I’ve thought about or debated about with myself earlier that day. If I’m particularly scatterbrained that day, I’ll just write a little collection of my thoughts! Voila, the birth of my Midnight Snack Musings posts.
- Summer or Winter?
I used to be more of a winter person, but I’ve recently been really enjoying the summer.
- What was your favourite subject at school?
English Literature and Music.
- One place you’ve always wanted to visit and why?
Aoshima, Japan’s cat island. God, I’m such a cat lady. I have to resist the temptation to post cat photos on my Instagram every day. Seriously.
Unique Blogger Awards
These were bestowed upon me by the lovely writerkaren2017 and Mel Gutiér. Being a copywriter, Karen writes a truly impressive array of thinky posts (that’s the best word I can use to describe them). Truly top notch stuff. Mel’s blog has lots of fiction, poetry and highly entertaining rants about her children believing that they live in a castle with servants. She also speaks three languages. And then there’s me, who can’t even English sometimes. Please visit their blogs.
- Who is the most influential person in your life right now?
Without being self-absorbed, I would like to say me. I’m a bit of a rebel when it comes to allowing others to influence my decisions and beliefs, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t glean inspiration from everyone I encounter.
- What is the experience that has changed you?
Teaching music. It’s an incredibly humbling experience that just makes me feel so alive. My students will probably cringe if they ever read this.
- If you had to choose between new love and old, which would you choose and why?
Old. There’s nothing quite like time when it comes to ageing a fine wine and seeing past the initial giddy rush of hormones.
- What would you describe as a perfect moment?
When everything just feels right, and you feel at peace. At peace with the things going on around you, and with yourself. Things are just going well for you, and you’re in what can only be described as “the zone”.
- What general term do you feel is overrated?
“Glow”. I’m definitely guilty of using this about a trillion times in my own blog posts but damn it, what is with that word? It just makes me think of a creepy halloween pumpkin glowing in the dark. I’m sure we all want to look like that with our bronzer and highlighter, am I right ladies?
- Describe the person you aim to be in five sentences or less.
I want to be the girl who lives her life in technicolour, loves with no shame and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She’s a caring, empathetic person who knows how to support and how to inspire – and has people around her who support and inspire her on a daily basis. Yup, I wanna be that girl.
My nominations for BOTH awards are as follows.
My questions for you – feel free to pick any of the ones above, I think they’re pretty great questions. Can’t wait to read your answers – please drop me a link to your posts in the comments below!
Thank you again to the four lovely ladies who nominated me, and more importantly – thank you for your continued support and blogging love. You go girlies.
