Review: Karine Jackson Hair & Beauty Salon

Being someone who loves a good pampering at a salon (I must have been a poodle in a past life), I was ecstatic to find out that I would be getting my hair coloured at the highly esteemed Karine Jackson Hair and Beauty salon in Covent Garden, London. I had heard some wonderful things about the salon, and was excited to experience it for myself.

Bit of background – Karine Jackson is originally from Australia, and she moved to London at the age of 20. Coming from a family of hairdressers, she was no novice to the trade and soon began making her mark in London, earning accolades from the likes of Charles Worthington and Wella. She developed Organic Colour Systems, her own organic colour range which was introduced to her salon in 2007. Being a more natural, vegan alternative to conventional hair products, it is perhaps her salon’s biggest attraction and this certainly piqued my interest.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by Alasdair Thomson, the style director at the salon and my stylist for the afternoon. He was incredibly personable and made me feel at ease straight away. We got started with a hair and colour consultation, which involved a stretch test – I soon learned that my hair lacked protein, and he recommended various hair care products and gave me lots of tips on how to improve the condition of my hair. We decided on a soft brown balayage to give my existing highlights a more natural feel.

I was offered drinks and snacks all afternoon, from fruit juice to champagne, and a stack of magazines was always on hand. Part of the treatment included a scalp massage, and this was exactly what I needed at the end of a long week. Alasdair was always very considerate and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. When the colour had been toned and shampooed, he gave me a blowdry with soft curls as well as a fringe trim. I absolutely loved the results – the colour was just ashy enough and had none of the brassy orange hue I had been so keen to avoid. The curls lasted well into the evening and I walked out in just under three hours – incredibly speedy for a consultation, colour and blowdry.

I was very impressed with the quality of service and how skilful my stylist was – and a few days on, my hair is in significantly better condition than it’s ever been after a colour service. If you’re looking for a kinder alternative to your hair that doesn’t smell and gets the job done, put Karine Jackson’s salon on your list.
