Youtube Favourites

Ahh, YouTube. The world’s favourite distraction and my favourite bedmate post 8pm. Like everyone else on the planet, I spend far too much time on it and have definitely been guilty of venturing into the weirder realms of YouTube every so often (The Duck Song, anyone?) Here are some of my favourite things on YouTube that I’ve discovered to date, excluding cat videos because I have self restraint, you know.

  • Animator vs. Animation

This one was more of a recent discovery. I remember my cousin introducing the very first Animator vs. Animation video to me when we were much younger, and I was fascinated. Rediscovering this the other day was such a treat! I highly recommend checking out the rest of Alan Becker’s work, the creativity and detail that goes into his animation is just on a whole new level.

  • Sunday At The Village Vanguard – Bill Evans

I’ve always loved jazz, and I discovered the jazz pianist/composer Bill Evans during school days. His command of the keyboard and his artistry are nothing short of genius. What I love about this album though, is the way it shows off bass player Scott LeFaro. His virtuosity really holds its own alongside the piano part, rather than being restricted to the role of providing a bass accompaniment only. Perfect for winding down at the end of the day if you’ve had a stressful one, grab yourself a glass of wine and you’re good to go.

  • Khan Academy

Any science/healthcare students out there, you’ll know how useful Khan Academy videos are when you’re desperate for revision help. It’s great for A levels too, and I find it endlessly helpful when it comes to consolidating the basics before tackling the more advanced stuff. The step by step illustrations are perfect if you’re a visual learner! Bonus points if you recreate them yourself on paper whilst watching the video – that’s some top engagement right there.

  • BYU Vocal Point and BYU Noteworthy┬á

I am a HUGE fan of a cappella, and I am so glad these guys appeared on my YouTube suggested list. BYU Vocal Point and BYU Noteworthy are a respectively all-male and all-female a cappella group from Brigham Young University in Idaho, USA. They both do a bit of everything – medleys, hymns, Disney numbers, pop, you name it.

  • Simply Nailogical

Ahh, good old Cristine and her love for all things holo. I’ll be honest – I don’t even do my nails (not even a little bit) but Cristine’s videos are thoroughly entertaining to keep me coming back for more (I do have a soft spot for Simply Facelogical). Brownie points for the fact that she shares my love for the tiny eyeshadow applicators. They’re honestly great, you guys.

And that’s it! What are some of your favourite things to watch on YouTube? Put it in the comments below – I need new recommendations for after exams. You go girl.

  1. I am obsessed with watching make up tutorials. I never try anything I watch, but there is something very visually satisfying watching someone transform with makeup. I also love a good animal rescue video, although they usually make me cry! I LOVE jazz, so will have a look at your suggestion xx

  2. I love Cristine’s videos too! Lately I’ve been obsessed with watching those “I spend xx money on xx brand” haul videos.. it’s crazy how much people are willing to buy just to get a video out of it.

  3. I’m terrible for getting lot in YouTube! From tutorials to vlogs it’s too easy to get stuck in the play lots. Before I know it I’ve been at it for hours ? thanks for another to add to the list xo
